British Journal of Management accepts study on retro gaming nostalgia
A new article accepted by the British Journal of Management explores the psychological mechanisms underpinning retro game evoked nostalgia and the role this plays in shaping gamer behaviour.
Titled Back to the time when the grass was greener (and Buster Bunny was fluffier), the study examines the factors that trigger nostalgic responses among retro gamers, including the need for competence, escapism, social stability, boredom, and self discontinuity. The research further demonstrates that both nostalgia and enjoyment contribute significantly to player satisfaction, particularly when games are perceived as authentic.
The paper also highlights how positive gaming satisfaction can influence purchase intentions and broader market engagement, offering valuable insights into a consumer segment that continues to grow in cultural and commercial significance.
