Centre for AI Safety officially launched at Newcastle University
The official launch of the Centre for AI Safety marks a major milestone in Newcastle University’s contribution to responsible artificial intelligence research, innovation, and skills development. The event brought together academic colleagues, policymakers, and industry partners to outline a shared commitment to ensuring that AI systems are developed and deployed safely, ethically, and responsibly.
The Centre will work closely with the National Edge Artificial Intelligence Hub to support technical training, interdisciplinary collaboration, policy dialogue, and responsible innovation. Its establishment also aligns with wider regional developments positioning the North East as an emerging national centre for AI growth and investment. This initiative forms part of a broader effort to equip organisations, researchers, and future graduates with the capabilities needed to engage confidently with increasingly advanced AI technologies.
