e-Business Students win entrepreneurial awards

Third-year management students attending the eBusiness module won a number of awards at an event held at St James Park. The event was organised by the staff of the University?s Enterprise Centre, who also organised the competition, Enterprise Challenge.

Enterprise Challenge is a business plan writing competition. The competition is open to all full-time or part-time registered students at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and to any former student of the University graduating no earlier than two years ago.

Winner of the eBusiness Achievement award was STart, a company that will offer student art online. STart also was also the runner-up in the Culture, Arts & Media category.

Runner-up in the eBusiness achievement category was Swap City, a company that will allow users to swap items by arranging the swap details over the internet.

Runners up in the ?Graduate Achievement Award? category were Carrot Media Systems, four undergraduates whose mentor was Business School PhD Researcher Joanna Berry.

Moreover, Charles Baybutt a student of the eBusiness module and member of the Eventful.com group won the 'Outstanding Individual Achievement Award' for leading the Newcastle SIFE team to the UK National Competition. The team won the competition and will now be competiting in the international SIFE competition that will be held in Barcelona.

Finally, Dr Savvas Papagiannidis, one of the tutors, won the 'Overall Business Viability Award' for Netservey and was also a runner up in the 'Science & Technology' category.
