Institutional assessment: Policy and practice

Date: 14th March – 14:00-16:00
Location: Research Beehive / Old Library – Newcastle University

Information policies and practices in Higher Education need to constantly challenge all facets of the students’ learning experience. This is especially true for assessment, which not only examines whether students have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills required to gain a qualification, but also quantifies their performance, indirectly affecting their future careers options.

This event is part of a research project undertaken as part of a HASS Teaching Fellowship which aims to examine the practicalities of establishing institutional assessment strategies using a management information system. During the event Prof Alistair Mutch of Nottingham Business School will be presenting his views on the importance of information policies in Higher Education. His presentation will be followed by a demonstration of the developed system by Dr Savvas Papagiannidis, who will also present the project’s early findings.

Lunch will be provided before the event at 1:30. If you plan to attend, please email Dr Papagiannidis (), so that the necessary catering arrangements can be made.
